Pub of the Year

Every year the Northants CAMRA Branch names a Pub of the Year, as well as a Pub of the Season for each of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

Many people may wonder, and some often ask: "How is the Pub of the Year judged?"

The process of finding out the POTY has been developed over the past few years. Firstly, we ask for your nominations, throughout the year we ask members to e-mail, post or text nominations for Pub of the Season. Perhaps in future we may also look at the National Beer Scoring Scheme.

The Pub of the Season winners are automatically shortlisted and finally at the appropriate meeting the attendees are asked for wild card entrants. Next, votes are cast to finalise the last six. We then ask a neighbouring branch to visit the final pubs to give us an impartial opinion. What are they looking for? As the winner of the POTY are put forward to the regional awards, CAMRA HQ gives us guidelines:

  1. Quality of beer
  2. Atmosphere / style / decor
  3. Service and welcome
  4. Clientele Mix
  5. Sypathy with CAMRA's aims
  6. Good value
